Carver Museum & Library Details

Location: Austin, TX

Design of a new 30,000 sq.ft. museum and a 6,000 sq.ft. addition to the existing 10,000 sq.ft. library. The new Museum included three major areas: a 150 seat theater, a gallery, and a children’s gallery and education center. The library renovation and expansion included total replacement of existing HVAC systems and new lighting systems throughout.

The project was the City of Austin’s first to be designed in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED system and achieved a LEED certified status. Examples of LEED specific activities and features included: LEED buildings simulation for energy performance comparisons; highest efficiency HVAC equipment (including DX VAV with run-around coils for “free” reheat at VAV zones); indoor air quality measures; outdoor air conditioning systems that use energy recovery for precooling and reheating and that use active desiccant dehumidification for drying and reheating; daylighting and controls.
