University of Texas at Austin – Larry R. Faulkner Nano Science and Technology Building Details

Location: Austin, TX

Prime Engineering Consultant for new 65,000 sq. ft. leading edge research center. Facility includes state-of-the art labs (including highly vibration sensitive spaces) and class 100 and Class 1000 clean rooms.

Project also included university tunnel system extension under a neighboring building and across the site to bring thermal and select lab utilities to the building.

Special MEP systems combine reliability, energy conservation, maintenance, and simplicity to accommodate the widely varying uses of the sophisticated facility. Extensive energy recovery and exacting process control are also incorporated into the design, as are layers of safety and redundancy features appropriate for the facility.

The services TGCE provided included: prime consultant; project management; quality control; subconsultant selection/management/coordination; 3D Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing design; commissioning verifications; and Owner record drawings in 3D.

TGCE was chosen as a Prime MEP consultant for this project due to other significant laboratory experiences on other UT Austin Campus/OFPC projects. TGCE also provided 3D MEP design and 3D architectural and structural modeling for the project, the first time the University of Texas System had commissioned a 3D design project.
